Have you ever tried raw foodism?

This means that most of your foods are in natural form and not excessively cooked or not cooked at all. Does it work? I feel really groggy. I just want to know what methods are out there to detox naturally and if it works.

I haven’t tried Raw Foodism – isnt that where if you eat meat of any kind it has to be raw? I know fruiits and veggies too.

I eat cooked meat, some raw veggies, some cooked veggies, fruit, nuts, etc.

I restrict myself from eating alot of carbs and eat high in fiber foods.

I love it. Some people do get groggy though. Some reason I don’t!

Do you feed your Great Dane a raw food diet?

We are getting our Great Dane puppy soon and I would like to hear from those who feed their Great Dane a raw food diet. More detail the better. Thank you!

I don’t have Great Danes but do feed raw.

Here’s a great Great Dane website of a breeder who raw feeds:

Any other Raw Foods dieters out there?

Before you say ewww gross! I don’t eat raw meats! Strictly vegan. Could you please share your typical meals with me? And any yummy recipes too? Thanks!

99.99% Of the Raw peeps I know are Vegan. I do a little Raw Goat cheese(Alta Dena) once in a while but never meat or fish. In Carol Alt’s 1st raw book she did both.

1 of my fav uncook books is Raw made Easy by Jennifer Cornbleet. They are simple with small portions & don’t require too many kitchen gadgets to make. It’s well worth the modest investment but there are some great Raw Food Recipe sites on the web too. Also you would be surprised at how many naturally raw recipes I find in plain of magazines like Cooking Light, Veggie times or Gourmet.

Jennifer Cornbleet :Raw Food Made Easy
WALNUT PATE’
Yield 2/4 cups 2 servings

1 Cup Soaked Raw Walnuts*
1 TBS Fresh Lemon Juice
1 TPS extra Virgin Olive Oil
1 TPS Tamari
¼ TPS Garlic Powder
Dash Salt
1 TBS Minced Parsley ( 1tps. Dried)
1 TPS Mince Onion

Place Walnuts, Lemon Juice Olive Oil, Tamari, Garlic Powder & salt in food processor fitted with S Blade and process into paste. Stop occasionally to scarped down sides of bowl with rubber spatula. Transfer into small mixing bowl & add Parsley & Onion and mix well. Store in sealed container in the fridge. Walnut Paté will keep five days.
Variations:
Curried Walnut Paté add ¼ Tps. Curry powder
Pecan Pate replace walnuts with soaked Pecans

CHANGES I MADE:
I put all ingredients into Blender, added 1 TBS more EVOO, & about 2 tbs. Water to make smoother. Adding the water a little at a time. Scarping sides down often as you blend.

Soaking Guide
Cashews 1cup dry ~ soak time 2 hours
Walnuts 1 cup dry ~ soak time 4-6 hour yields 1 ¼ cups, can soak longer
Pecans 1 cup dry ~ 4-6 hours soak time yield 1 ¼ cups

I serve it on Romiane Lettuce leaves, or Cuke Rounds.

TYPICAL Meal~
I Do Fresh Veggie Juice most mornings.
Green Smoothies http://www.emaxhealth.com/14/1182.html
Fruit or LaraBars as snacks.
Then I luv fresh salads & usually eat them 2 times a day as 1st course if not main course.
Until recently I thought 1 had to be 100% raw to be considered Raw, the term applies if you do 75% or more of your diet Raw. If I need I do small amount of cooked food usually at dinner. Vegan or at least Veggie. Things like Brown Rice, Oven Roasted veggies etc. I assume when it gets cold I’ll do Lentils & other cooked veggie stews & soups too.

I hope this what you were looking for.

RAW FOODISTS – i am a nursing mom, can i go raw now?

my son is 21 months old and he still breastfeeds about 3-6 times a day, also throughout the night. i’ve been on a raw foods diet before and tried to do the Master Cleanser when i found out i was pregnant. (at the time i wasnt eating raw). i am just dying to go back to raw foods and i know it would be awesome for me, but i am concerned about detoxing and breastmilk.

only serious answers please.
i am a vegetarian now, but i do eat eggs (not much dairy)
mike, thanks for your opinions, but i believe that raw food eating is superior and im not here to be convinced of otherwise. raw foodists are usually super thin because they are in the beginning stages of detox, and after the body cleanses out the toxins those people usually gain weight back.

on a personal level, i have experienced such clarity of mind, happiness and peace on a raw foods diet.

you can.

any suggestions on feeding a raw dog food diet?

I’m thinking of adopting a great dane from a rescue facility and have been hearing about the raw dog food diet. I’m really interested in feeding any future dogs this type of diet. I have done some online research and know the basics but I’m wanting to talk to people who actually own danes and feed a raw diet. I’m mostly curious as to how much more expensive this would be than feeding top quality commercial food (say, $30 for a 40lb bag), the quantitiy usually fed (I know it depends on the dog’s age, amount of exercise, ect) frequency (once or twice daily) and the different types of food fed. I’d appreciate any feedback on this! Thanks!

there are a TON of raw or Barf diet web sites out there. here are just 2 of them

http://barfworld.com/

http://presagirls.tripod.com/id14.html

there are a lot of yahoo groups out there too.
just do a search for BARF or Raw feeding for dogs.

I have been using it for about 3 yrs now and LOVE it.
I find it can be cheaper then the HIGH end dog foods too.

there are a lot of repackaged raw foods now too. That is how I got started then started to make my own.

http://www.katberard.com/hol_bonesandfood.htm

the above site has lots of info and also has links to prepackaged foods too…..

also a good starter book is
Natural nutrition for dogs and cats
Auther Kymythy r Schultze, c.c.n., a,h,i,

READ UP ON IT AND SEE WHAT YOU THINK

I get 40 lbs of chicken backs for $13.00. 40 lbs last me about 1 month. I am feeding 3 dogs.
I also make my own meat and veggie mix and that cost about $20.00 a month depending on the types of meat I put in it.
so I am spening about 33.00 or so a month. but this is 3 dogs
2 dogs are about 30 pounds and I have a 70 pound dog too.

just found 2 yahoo groups. You will have to join but they may have more answers.

What’s the best salad for Raw Foods Diet?

I’m trying to make myself a salad for tomorrow for lunch, but I’ve recently tried to follow the Raw Foods Diet plan type thing. Can anyone help me come up with things to put in my salad so I don’t break the raw foods plan??? Also, should I add nuts to my salad? Walnuts or toasted almonds?

THANK YOU SO MUCH!

Do ‘detox’ diets actually do anything or is it all a big con like most things?

do ‘detoxes’ work because we think they are working, are they just another way of making money out of us, another fad diet, and a load of unneccessary baloney? does the body detox itself, and is all we really need to do eat a sensible diet with lots of fruit veg and water on a regular basis? I see people buying detox packs, powder, yogi teas, and doing various other things like only eating raw food… Isn’t the thing to be balanced and regular with our eating to get our bodies into a routine, rather than making any drastic changes and weird eating habits in order to supposedly ‘detox’ – doesn’t it do more harm than good keep swapping and changing out diets like this????

Is DETOX a bit CON???

I am not a dietitian but i think it’s a con similar to overpriced anti-ageing creams. You are right, all we need is good quality food, plenty of fruit, veg and water (and exercise). When people go to extremes they are likely to get into trouble. Like i watched a tv show where a woman who was fruitarian for a couple of years, she started losing her hair and generally suffered from fatigue. Her diet was full of vitamins but lacked proteins which are essential for human body. I think it even may be dangerous to be a veggie Unless you make sure you have something to substitute meat and get enough proteins…

Does this diet plan sound good?

Take a look at the diet plan below and tell me what you think.

Rapid Weight Loss Plan

General Information

This diet is also a fast and is fat- burning. The key is that you will burn many more calories than you will take in. It will flush your system of impurities and give you a feeling of well- being. This diet does no lend itself to drinking any alcoholic beverages at any time b/c of the removal of fat build- up in your system. Go off the diet for at least twenty-hours before consuming any alcohol.

Because each person’s digestive system is different, this diet will not have the same effect on everyone. After three days, if you don’t cheat, you will have more energy that before you began. After you have been on the diet for several days, you may find that your bowel movements have changed and you may need to eat a cup of bran or fiber. Although you can have black coffee with this plan, after the third day you may find that you don’t need the caffeine.

The Basic Fat Burning Soup can and should be eaten anytime you feel hungry… eat as much as you want. Remember, the more of the soup you eat, the more you will lose.

Definite no-no’s on the plan are:
• Breads
• Alcohol
• Carbonated drinks (including diet)
• All fried foods
This diet will not interfere with any prescribed medication. You can eat broiled chicken for the beef if you wish, but absolutely no skin on the chicken. If you wish you can substitute broiled fish for beef on one of the beef days. You need the high protein from beef on the other day. Continue this plan as long as you wish and feel better both mentally and physically.

The Basic Fat Burning Soup

6 large onions
1 to 2 cans of tomatoes
1 large head of cabbage
2 green peppers
I bunch of celery
1 package of Lipton soup mix

Season with salt, pepper, curry, parsley if desired, or bullion, or hot sauce.

Cut vegetables in small to medium pieces and cover with water. Boil fast for ten minutes. Reduce to simmer and continue cooking until vegetables are tender. This soup can be eaten anytime you are hungry. Eat as much as you want, whenever you want as this soup will not add calories. The more you eat, the more you will lose. Fill a thermos in the morning if you will be away during the day. If eaten alone for an indefinite period of time, you would suffer malnutrition.
Day 1
All fruits except bananas. Cantaloupe and watermelon are lower in calories than most fruits. Eat only fruits with soup. For drinks, use unsweetened tea, cranberry juice or water

Day 2
All vegetables eat al the fresh, raw or canned vegetables until you are stuffed. Try to eat green, leafy veggies and stay away from dry beans, peas, corn. Eat them along with the soup. At dinner only on this day, reward yourself with a big baked potato and butter. Do not eat any fruits.

Day 3
Eat the soup, fruits and veggies you want. Do not have a baked potato.

If you have eaten as specified for three days, and have not cheated, you will find you have lost between five to seven pounds.

Day 4
Bananas and skimmed milk. Eat as many as three bananas and drink as many glasses of water as you can, along with the soup. Bananas are high in calories and carbohydrates as is the milk, but on this particular day your body will need potassium, carbohydrates, proteins and calcium to lessen you craving for sweets.

Day 5
Beef and vegetables. You may have 10 to 20 ounces of beef plus a can of tomatoes or as many as six fresh tomatoes on this day. Try to drink six to eight glasses of water to flush the uric acid from your body. Eat the soup at least once on this day.

Day 6
Beef and vegetables. Eat the beef and veggies to your hearts content on this day. You can even have two or three steaks if you like, with green, leafy veggies but no baked potato. Be sure to eat the soup at least one time.

Day 7
Brown rice, unsweetened fruit juices and veggies. Once again, eat all you want. Be sure to have the soup at least one time.

At the end of the seventh day, you should have lost ten to seventeen pounds if you have not cheated. If you have lost more than fifteen pounds, stay off the diet for two days before resuming the diet from one day.

This seven- day eating plan can be used as often as you like. If correctly followed, it will cleanse your system of impurities and make you feel better than ever.

After only seven days, you will have an abundance of energy and will feel much lighter. Continue with the plan as long as you wish as feel the difference!

Sounds bland. I wouldnt be able to stick to it. Good luck to you!
