I read somewhere that it would be benificial to the liver to do a one or 2 day detox every month or so. I was wondering whether anyone could give me some help as to what foods would be best to eat and what foods not to eat at all – i.e. dairy / alcohol … and whether or not cooked food is ok to eat, or whether its best to just stick to raw foods as much as possible. Also is stuff like olive / vegetable oil and honey ok to use on a detox, or are these too bad
thanks for any help xx
Pseudoscientific nonsense. Any fad diet or over-the-counter product with the word "detox" in it, is by definition a fraud.
Everyone knows that if you really want to detox, you have to sleep under a quartz pyramid wearing a tinfoil cap.

Detox improves health, energy, resistance to disease, mental state, digestion, as well as aiding in weight loss. Many dietitians, and doctors, however, regard ‘detox diets’ as less effective than drinking a glass of water, and view ‘detox diets’ as generally harmless but a waste of money."Detox" diets usually suggest that water, or fruits and vegetables compose a majority of one’s food intake. Limiting this to unprocessed (and sometimes also non-GM) foods is often advocated. Limiting or eliminating alcohol is also a major factor, and drinking more water is similarly recommended. Oils and honey are not bad for you.
The menu for your detox probably depends on how ‘bad’ your usual diet is – i.e. cut out alcohol, cigarettes, caffeine, non-prescription drugs, sugar, refined carbs, fatty meats and processed foods, salt, and arguably dairy and eggs.
Personally i do not do well on a detox, mainly because i smoke and drink. However, i have found that a mixed detox, cutting out the above is do-able (ie whole grains, vegetables, beans, fruit). If you are after something stricter, some people do enjoy (?) a 2 day juice diet, but the real benefits come from making your own from fresh (apparently) which is expensive, and also contains little fibre and a lot of sugars, if they are fruit juices.
Anyways, yes, def cutting out alcohol and the listed above foods, and also meat and fish is the usual detox, if it is only for a couple of days. Better than a restrictive and bizzare detox (e.g. a month of only brown rice and mung beans, no fruit or veg at all, yes i know someone who did it, they did not look well lol), is a healthier attitude to diet in the long term.
Good luck, and enjoy whatever you decide..x
