do ‘detoxes’ work because we think they are working, are they just another way of making money out of us, another fad diet, and a load of unneccessary baloney? does the body detox itself, and is all we really need to do eat a sensible diet with lots of fruit veg and water on a regular basis? I see people buying detox packs, powder, yogi teas, and doing various other things like only eating raw food… Isn’t the thing to be balanced and regular with our eating to get our bodies into a routine, rather than making any drastic changes and weird eating habits in order to supposedly ‘detox’ – doesn’t it do more harm than good keep swapping and changing out diets like this????
Is DETOX a bit CON???
I am not a dietitian but i think it’s a con similar to overpriced anti-ageing creams. You are right, all we need is good quality food, plenty of fruit, veg and water (and exercise). When people go to extremes they are likely to get into trouble. Like i watched a tv show where a woman who was fruitarian for a couple of years, she started losing her hair and generally suffered from fatigue. Her diet was full of vitamins but lacked proteins which are essential for human body. I think it even may be dangerous to be a veggie Unless you make sure you have something to substitute meat and get enough proteins…

Maybe a little, but not enough that you would ever notice. Just eat fresh and healthy foods and you’ll be fine.

You cant get rid of toxins that built up in the body:its in the fat or the organs?
A lot of people think, detoxing means, these weird foods they eat will "clean" them out:yes, they will have diarrhea!for days and days.

The body can detox itself but only to a certain point.
Our bodies are not designed to cope with a ‘western’ diet of junk and alcohol hence the high incidence of heart disease from too much fat and salt, liver disease from too much alcohol and bowel cancer from eating all that crap that prevents us being ‘regular’.
Everything in moderation is a good way to be.

If it’s a REAL Detox diet done under the supervision of a doctor – like if you suffer from liver problems – then yes. If it’s just one of these faddy things, then stuff like a quarter of "detox tea" isn’t going to do much good – except to the pockets of the makers, wholesalers and retailers – and that sort of thing is NEVER advised by detox dieticians – so surely, it speaks for itself! THEY will supply you with any fancy herbal mixtures they think fit – for free – not at £2.99 for four ounces ! ! !
By the way – Yahoo dictionary wants me to spell it "dietitian" – but I say it’s got a ‘c’ in it thus – dietician – and Mr Google agrees with ME ! ! !

I admire your cynicism , they work but you have to keep at it , some people enjoy the fuss and bother , others don’t .
