doctor prescribed 800-1000 calorie diet?

raw foods weight loss diet

I am 20Ibs overweight and exercise intensely everyday for 2 or more hours a day (cycling, running, weight training, walking, mowing, etc). I even burn 1000-1500 calories a day for each intense activity. I eat pretty healthy most of the time but my weight just fluctuates further up, never dropping. I had my gallbladder taken out and my system has never been the same. I talked with two different doctors and both state that I should go on an 800 calorie diet. The doctors both even told me that women sometimes have to go on such a restrictive diet to see weight loss and that we are built for survival so it would be ok for awhile but sometimes I should switch it up. Has anyone ever been on an 800 calorie diet because a doctor recommended it? I have tried several different diets and none have helped. I even tried eating raw and eating the typical 1500 calories a day of healthy food and nothing has changed. My body is just not responsive. I would like a response from someone that did this diet

800 calories? Are they out of their freaking mind!?
You definitely need more food than that, you’re going to starve yourself!
It’s fine if you’re overweight, and it’s great that you are very active..but if you really burn that much a day you won’t have any energy left if you eat only 800 calories a day.
The answer is to eat normally, ESPECIALLY since you are already eating healthy enough.
Eat what you want, but I need to know one thing.
How long have you been working out, eating healthy? When exactly was your gall bladder taken out>?
This should definitely take time.
Are you at least feeling the burn when weight training–feeling sore after the first day? If you are, then your body is responding. If not, then I’d say you’re used to the weight and walking.
And what do you mean by eating raw? Like raw food?

Sorry if my answer didn’t help since I haven’t been prescribed by this "diet" D:
But that is just wack.
An 800 calories diet isn’t the way to go, no matter what your doctor says. Think about it. That’s insanely unhealthy! Talk to him/her about it. Even if you were told by two different doctors. It’s illogical enough to disbelieve.
I think you should stick with your current lifestyle–it’s very healthy as it is! Don’t worry if your body isn’t so responsive yet–you will definitely see change if you keep it up! :)

I used to put myself on 300 calorie diets, back when I was an idiot about my health.

800 calories a day might make you GAIN weight, seeing as how your body will go into starvation mode and start storing everything you take in as fat.

I think you need to see a new doctor. Or maybe a nutritionist.

I havn’t done this diet but my auntie did. It was a pretty drastic change for her but had huge results. She wasn’t as healthy as you are in your eating habits so the diet took affect alot faster. She was also recomended to eat much slower and had to drink tons and tons of water. She mainly ate simple meals consisting of salad, cold chicken and dry brown toast for dinner. It seemed unhealthy because of the amount of weight she was losing but she managed to drop about 10lbs within a month. This sort of diet as all about self restraint and is hard to stick to. If you don’t want to take this diet then Paul McKenna has some great techniques. They may seem phoney at first but they have worked wonders for myself. Eating very slowly and chewing alot before swallowing. If you get hungry then have a glass o two of water first then wait a while (sometimes we mistake thirst for hunger) then if you are still hungry you can have a snack. Good luck

you should never eat less than 1200 cal. per day. under 1200 our bodies begin to consume themselves. the weight you lose will be muscle, not fat. see your gyno- you may have PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome) a condition which screws up your hormones. i have it. i eat a 1200 cal diet, run 10 miles a day, and am still 25 lbs over my healthy weight. but if i miss a workout, or eat 1 freakin extra calorie, BLAMO!! I gain 5 lbs. i feel for you! good luck.

Doctors are good and needed but rather see an registered nutritionist. Cutting calories is not the way to go as you need it to maintain muscle tone. I cannot speak about your diet as I do not know the effect of a removed gall bladder on the body. As far as I can recall fat intake gets stored and when the body needs to use the fat for energy a by product is gall. But the that is true of coffee as well. Rather see a nutritionist but make sure she/he is registered with your medical controlling body.

I’m not sure about the 800 calorie diet, but then again if they’re real doctors then I’ll assume they know better but what I know for sure is that you should not do such intense exercise for over an hour.

I recently started exercising and i’v been doing a lot of research; with such intense exercise your body stops burning calories after 50-60 minutes and starts burning muscles which lowers your metabolism. It’s great that you’r working out and eating less but remember that too much of anything is almost always bad for you. Cheers!
