Most energy comes from carbonhydrates, you build muscle on that. Not just protein. 
Building muscle on hamburgers sounds like a very bad idea.
Look up some vegan weight lifters, they are doing amazingly well.

Vegans do need to take some supplements, like B12. Otherwise everything can be found plant based.</description>
