I’ve been a vegetarian since she was sixteen. In the late eighties, it was hard, even harder to be a vegan now. In the past year, I made the transition to vegan, but thanks to the work of innovative chefs such as Isa Chandra Moskowitz, this is not difficult now. The next challenge? Go raw very difficult, because apparently, you need a Vita-Mix, a dehydrator (I do not think I’ve ever seen even one of those), a food processor, mill, and a host of other esoteric equipment that I have not even heard right?
Ani Phyo earned four stars right off the bat, making almost every one of your recipes possible with a blender, or in many cases, a knife. There are perhaps three recipes that absolutely require a dehydrator, and even that can get to everything. For this reason alone, if you’ve been thinking about the rough, but was intimidated by all the necessary equipment, do not miss this.
The recipes I’ve tried and I’ve become a little crazy in recent days have been not only simple, but very, very good. So far I have made Miso Soup, Almond Yogurt, Black Pepper CHEEZE, Nori Rolls, Coco Kream Pie (oh wow, so good), a bunch of your shakes and my version of their sunflower bread (hmm, how I can do that without a dehydrator?). Almost all of this has been accomplished with a mixer, and I do not even have the legendary Vita-Mix. In other words, most households can do this.
Each chapter opens with his thoughts and recommendations on environmentalism. I liked most of his suggestions, but I was a little uncomfortable with his statements that his body was not a “business” and she is therefore willing to pay more for their raw produce. I-I welcome to his envy and others like her, but I am disappointed that it’s up to the readers who can not afford organic products and live mostly in areas with bad public transport system and recycling. I shudder every time I read something that makes it seem as if health is only for the rich.
However, she did not lose a star for his tone, as strident as may have been at times, inspired me to find an alternative solution for my dryer and I did. Ever make yogurt with a heating pad? If you have a small enough I think a screen that fits in a toaster oven and a little tin-aluminum congratulations, you have the guts to a dehydrator to make your own. I’m still tweaking mine, but I was very inspired by the results of sunflower with my bread.
This is a soup to nuts guide to going raw, and need not reoutfit your kitchen. You can, however, inspire us to rethink its approach to food.

This really is a beautiful book raw foods – in more ways than one. It is beautiful to behold, is colorful, has lots of beautiful pictures of Ani and his friends, and most importantly – contains some amazing raw food recipes. Each page is full of little things Ani, useful information, and their thoughts and beliefs do everything possible to make this world a better place to live, I have tried 4 recipes Ani, and all I can say that if the rest of the recipes are nothing like I’ve tried, then it is money well spent.
So why do I give only 4 stars? Well, for starters, Ani repeats a lot of things in his book. Here are some examples: Reasons to buy at farmers markets, organic eating, not to put something in your body just because the subject is cheap or free, etc etc Ani says these same things in several different chapters. Probably just wanted to get the message loud and clear.
Not get me wrong, I still think that this book is a great buy, and I would recommend to anyone interested in raw foods , or eat healthy. Also I would recommend to anyone interested in “treading lightly” on our planet. If you can only read one book and want to learn to “live green, eat organic, healthy, learning about raw foods and enjoy your meals, then buy this book!
< br /> One more comment: I thought it was strange that Ani’s book was not printed on recycled paper (I watched 3 times to find some information about this in the book, but could not find it anywhere). Consider all the information provided in the living responsibly as possible, I was disappointed to think that she did not insist that the book is printed on recycled paper, or at least somewhere other than the one printed on paper recycling – it is.

I really wanted to enjoy this book. It has a nice concept, the author looks great, and there seemed a good number of recipes inside. However, after trying several of them, I have to give the book a big thumbs down. became one of the breakfast is encoded, and it was quite unpleasant texture as it was simply pulverized seeds with seasonings. I also made a recipe raved as being so delicious, one of his favorites, a fake mashed potatoes. What was it? broccoli puree with a few seasonings. maybe you have to be in a certain mindframe get something out of the food offered in this book. The final recipe I tried was low nacho cheese. This is by far the worst element of raw foods that have done so far. that was ground Brazil nuts, water and a few spices. how in the world is not even comparable to cheese? I understand that it is raw, but I tried other raw cheeses, and were much, much better. it was gritty and tasteless.
I have four raw cookbooks, and this is my least favorite, and I probably never use. I truly believe that vegetarian / vegan / raw food can still be delicious, food, attractions, etc for the palate. I’ve done a lot of raw recipes, and that rival most high price you can find. when I have people to eat, I wish they were surprised and delighted that you are eating healthy food is also delicious. I fear that with the selections of Ani, or laughed or spit in their napkins.

I bought this book hoping it would provide some new and interesting recipes. I have been preparing healthy meals premiums by more than 2 years. I have some problems with any book: (1) All the recipes use lots of oil and nuts, and many of them contain lots of sugar, and thus are ultra-high in calories, (2) Most of the recipes come from books Cooking for others (not a lot of originality), (3) I find it very unattractive to see pictures of any other page in every place of the photos of delicious cooked food. Sincerely, Jennifer Cornbleet’s book is much better for simple meals, delicious raw and light.

I have been borrowing books from the library of premiums in an attempt to find a book that uncooked leaves me feeling like a raw food preparation is too difficult. Do not get me wrong, I love cooking, and make the most of my meals from scratch (instead of adding bottle pre-prepared / canned / frozen ingredients), but many of the raw books out there require you to soak for 12 hours, germinated for 4, marinade for 2, then dehydrated for 12-20 hours (In fact, I’ve got some burgers dehydration at the time I started doing 2 days ago). Ani recipes taste great and are not heavy with coconut / avocado / olive / nut oil as many raw foods.
What does the book Ani’s great is that most his recipes can be done within 30 minutes-1 hour, only a handful require a dehydrator, and all the recipes I’ve tried so far works. This is the first of the books I borrowed, I have actually bought.
